U of L seeks court-ordered mediation in dispute with Norton

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville filed a counterclaim in a dispute with Norton Healthcare over Kosair Children's Hospital.

Dr. David Dunn, executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Louisville, says the university also filed a motion seeking court-ordered mediation to help with litigation costs.

Last week, U of L officials said Norton walked out on negotiations.

After Norton announced in August 2013 a possible partnership with the University of Kentucky Healthcare and Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington, U of L threatened to evict Norton from Kosair.

U of L claimed the partnership would violate a 1981 agreement that Norton must use the property for university benefit.

Norton filed suit in response, saying that U of L had no right to make such a move.
