LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested after police say he stole over $1,000 of property from Southern High School's auto repair shop.

According to an arrest report, 22-year-old Robert Lee Dewitt had been given permission to work on his vehicle at the high school, located at the corner of Preston Hwy. and Miles Lane. He was asked to lock up the shop, but before he left, police say he took items valued at $1,000.

Police say Dewitt was caught on video making several trips in and out of the shop with the stolen property.

When confronted about the alleged thefts, Dewitt allegedly admitted to the crime and returned some of the stolen property, but told authorities he would have to get money to buy some of the stolen property back.

He was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 29, and charged with theft by unlawful taking. Police say he cooperated with authorities.
