Report: White Lodging hotel company suffers data breach

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana-based White Lodging, which manages hotels across the country including seven in Louisville, "appears to have suffered a data breach that exposed credit and debit card information on thousands of guests throughout much of 2013," according to information security blog KrebsOnSecurity.

White Lodging, whose Louisville properties include the downtown Marriott, said in an emailed statement: "An investigation is in progress, and we will provide meaningful information as soon as it becomes available."

White Lodging's other Louisville hotels are the Fairfield Inn & Suites downtown, the Springhill Suites downtown, Residence Inn Louisville downtown, Springhill Suites Hurstbourne, Residence Inn Louisville Northeast and Courtyard Inn Northeast, according to its website.

White Lodging, based in Merrillville, Ind., calls itself the "largest manager of Residence Inns, Courtyard by Marriotts and Hilton Garden Inns in the United States."

KrebsonSecurity was first to report the November-December data breach at Target stores across the country.

Krebs wrote the breach "appears to have affected mainly restaurants, gift shops and other establishments within hotels managed by White Lodging — not the property management systems that run the hotel front desk computers which handle guests checking in and out."
