ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare providers today face significant challenges exchanging unstructured patient information with other providers. Meeting security and HIPAA regulatory requirements to avoid patient information privacy breaches and fines continues to be a major pain point. Meaningful Use requirements present additional challenges. Meanwhile, acute, ambulatory, and extended care providers continue to struggle with communication gaps due to inconsistent electronic medical record (EMR) adoption.

Together, these healthcare information obstacles cause a number of issues for patients and providers including:

  • the inability to efficiently diagnose and transition patients;
  • gaps in patients' Continuum of Care, which can increase patient dissatisfaction and risk of payment denials;
  • delays of care-provider reimbursement that can increase healthcare costs.

Kodak Alaris and Inofile are collaborating to create healthcare solutions that address these critical patient information challenges. The partnership will combine Kodak Alaris' award-winning document capture and information management solutions with Inofile's interoperability expertise and ability to transform unstructured medical information into a common, standards-based format. Together, the companies will address the data challenges facing healthcare providers, and bring structure to unstructured patient information.

"Our companies' innovative technologies address some of the most pressing issues in healthcare today: standards requirements and the exchange of patient information," said Dolores Krutchen, President of Kodak Alaris' Document Imaging division. "We share a common commitment to close the communication gaps around unstructured and structured patient data."

Kodak Alaris will be exhibiting at booth #8164 at HIMSS14 in Orlando, Feb. 23–27. Inofile will also be at the conference providing live demonstrations in the Interoperability Showcase.

"HIMSS14 will be the ideal venue for us to show the industry how our new partnership will help to improve the way unstructured patient information can be shared," said Inofile CEO Jon Elwell. "Our companies are focused on breaking down healthcare's communication barriers, in an effort to help healthcare providers have timely access to the information they need to effectively deliver patient-centered care."
