LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Senate has passed a bill requiring doctors to perform an ultrasound before abortions.
Under the bill, the doctors would also have to explain to the pregnant woman what was seen on the screen.
Doctors who don't comply, would receive fines.
Senators passed the bill with a 33-5 vote on Wednesday, and it's on its way to the House. Those supporting the bill hope to "soften the hearts" of House leaders -- and those opposing the bill, say women don't need ultrasounds to understand pregnancy and it denies the right to control their health decisions.
