LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A 5-year-old New Albany girl, who survived a fire that killed her siblings, is making major improvements at the hospital.
The grandmother of Taty'Ana Hughes says she has now been taken off a ventilator.
She's been in an Indianapolis hospital since January 4th, when a fire ripped through a home killing her three siblings, ages 2, 4, and 6.
This past week, Hughes had another surgery.
She had serious burns over 20 percent of her body, and partially lost two toes.
"Yesterday they were able to wean her off of the ventilator because she started breathing ahead of it on her own. So they turned it down until they basically weaned her off of it, and they took the tubes out last night. She's just doing wonderful," says Marie Hughes, the grandmother of Taty'Ana Hughes.
18-year-old Cody Cashion was charged with three counts of murder and one count of arson after police say he fired a flare gun into the home that Taty'Ana and her siblings were in, catching it on fire.
