Daycare purse-snatchers turn themselves in

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Two people accused of posing as parents to steal purses and cash from Louisville day care centers have turned themselves in.

Police say Tamera Jenkins and Duane Acklin are now at Metro Corrections.

The pair told police they'd planned to turn themselves in but instead Jenkins cut off her cell phone and they left the area.

They were visiting local daycares posing as parents who were interested in enrolling their toddler. Then the two created a distraction in order to snatch purses and steal cash.

Jenkins and Acklin have been attempting this for a few months at several daycares. Police say more people have come forward, saying the pair stole from them as well.

They both have previous police records and Jenkins had two active warrants for her arrest.

Two years ago, she was accused of ordering her 4 year old to stab her aunt with a kitchen knife.

Police say other children stopped the child, but suffered cuts in the process.
