LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shively Police say they've arrested an employee of a local income tax preparation firm after she stole a client's wallet and used her credit cards.
According to an arrest warrant, the incident took place on Jan. 31 at the Liberty Tax office on Dixie Hwy., near Gagel Ave. Police say the victim was having her taxes prepared at the office, and accidentally left her wallet on the desk of 22-year-old Yaimy Real Marrero.
Instead of giving the wallet back to her, police say Marrero took the wallet and kept it.
When the victim discovered that her wallet was missing, she called Marrero, but police say Marrero denied seeing it. However, when the woman returned to the office, she was allegedly told by several office employees that they saw Marrero with her wallet.
The woman then contacted Shively Police, and a report was filed. It was eventually determined that her credit card had been used for two unauthorized charges. Police say one of the purchases was made at Thorntons in the amount of $31.01 and the card was used again at Scale Reproduction to make a purchase in the amount of $259.70.
Police say they obtained surveillance video of Marrero's car at Thorntons at the time of the purchase.
Marrero eventually returned the woman's wallet to her on Feb. 2. Police say Marrero confessed to the woman that she and her boyfriend used her credit cards to make the purchases.
The victim's social security card was missing from her wallet, according to police -- and Marrero allegedly confessed to tearing it up.
A warrant for Marrero's arrest was issued on Feb. 11, and she was taken into custody later that day. She is charged with theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
