Law would impose mandatory life sentence for cop killers

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Lawmakers are looking to honor fallen Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis by getting tough on criminals who murder police officers.

The Officer Jason Ellis Memorial Act would call for a minimum sentence of life without parole.

The bill applies to the intentional murder of a local or state officer or sheriff's deputy, on duty at the time of death.

Ellis was shot last May as he got out of his cruiser to pick up tree limbs on a highway.

No arrests have been made.
