LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a shoplifting suspect was caught on surveillance video trying to steal a surveillance kit.

According to the arrest report, police were called to the Sam's Club in the 6600 block of Preston Highway around 1 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, 54-year-old Jeffrey S. Baxter was in the custody of the store's loss prevention staff, accused of removing a surveillance kit from its packaging and concealing it.

Members of the store's security staff told police they continued to observe Baxter as he walked around the store, but Baxter noticed he was being watched. That's when Baxter started leaving various parts of the surveillance kit at different locations in the store, according to the store's security staff.

Baxter was stopped as he tried to exit the store. When he was searched, security personnel found one piece of the kit. Police were called and Baxter was arrested.

According to the arrest report, Baxter admitted to trying to steal the merchandise. He's charged with theft.
