LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A lot of money is coming to one of the first students to finish a local scholarship program.

On Friday morning, New Albany High School senior Stephanie Iglesias was awarded a $22,000-per-year scholarship to Hanover College.

She is part of the first graduating class of New Albany High School's Bulldog Scholars. The 19 scholars were selected while they were still in middle school. During high school, they agreed to keep their grades up and take honors and AP courses every year.

Iglesias is the first of the group to be recognized in a ceremony at the school.

"I had no idea," Iglesias said. "This is a dream college for me. It gives me the opportunity to go to the college I've wanted to go to since the beginning of my high school career."

Her scholarship recognizes the community service and social justice work she's done during high school.
