LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A man was arrested after police say he shoplifted merchandise from a department store.
Cortez Ricketts was taken into police custody on Feb. 10 for allegedly stealing items from a Macy's store at 7900 Shelbyville Rd. The incident occurred on Feb. 5. According to an arrest report, Ricketts picked up several North Face jackets from a store display and started to exit the store, proceeding past all points of purchase. Ricketts was stopped by store security.
Ricketts allegedly shoved the security officer in an attempt to escape, but Ricketts was successfully detained by the officer.
Louisville Police were called to the scene and the merchandise Ricketts had taken was recovered. The stolen jackets taken on Feb. 5 were valued at a combined total of $796.
An LMPD officer took Ricketts' information and he was allowed to leave the store. Store employees were advised to file a criminal complaint regarding the incident.
According to police records, store employees recognized Ricketts, because he had allegedly taken merchandise from the store on at least one prior occasion.
Police reports say that Ricketts entered the same Macy's store on Jan. 25 and picked up 12 North Face jackets and fled from the store. A security officer tried to stop Ricketts, but he escaped in a car that was waiting just outside the door. The value of the merchandise taken on Jan. 25 was worth a total of $1,920.
The same car that Ricketts used for his escape in the Jan. incident was reportedly used in the Feb. theft, but left the scene after Ricketts was detained by security. Both thefts were recorded by store surveillance video.
A warrant for Ricketts' arrest was issued on Feb. 6. He was taken into custody four days later.
