LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --U of L head baseball coach Dan McDonnell has high expectations for his team, after winning two out three games last weekend in South Carolina.
The Cards host their home opener against Eastern Kentucky University on Wednesday, February 19th.
Wednesday kicks off the team's 36 home game stretch.
The game starts at 3 p.m. at the Jim Patterson Stadium with free admission.
The next 17 games the Cards play will be at home.
The stadium has different concessions specials each day of the week.
The left field is it's most popular area for family fun with a great view and a play ground for the kids.
Coach McDonnell says the team and the fans hold high expectations for this year's season.
The team had 19 players return, each getting the chance to step up and play bigger roles this year.
Seven of last year's players went into the draft.
Coach Mac is excited for Nick Burdi, who pitches for the Cards.
Burdi throws over 100 miles per hour on the mound and pitched for Team USA over the summer.
Burdi's younger brother also joined the team this year as a freshman.
McDonnell says freshman Will Smith is a guy to watch out for.
He says Smith is a versatile player with a lot of potential.
