IU women's basketball game still on, despite damage to Assembly Hall

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One day after a metal plate came crashing down in Assembly Hall, the IU women will hit the hardwood.

The men's game was postponed yesterday after this a 50-lb. beam crashed into a section of seats.

Ironically, the entire renovation team for Assembly Hall were on-site when the crash happened -- and they quickly determined what caused the accident.

"With the snow and ice accumulation, it settled at the lowest point in that curve, at such magnitude, that it essentially popped that bottom plate off," said Fred Glass, athletic director.

Preliminary evaluation shows this was an isolated problem, and the women will play tonight, but fans may be limited on where they can sit.
