LMPD warns of scam artists requesting money for police department

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Police say there may be scam artists telling people they are collecting money on behalf of LMPD.

Officials say the Louisville Metro Police Foundation is the only entity that is authorized to solicit funds on behalf of LMPD.

A police spokesperson says the foundation does not "cold call" and ask for a credit card or other personal financial information.

If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, call LMPD's Fraud Unit at 574-7045.
