LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman was hospitalized Tuesday after police say her boyfriend stabbed her in the side.

According to the arrest warrant, it happened Feb. 18 in the 6500 block of Wood Drive. That's when police say the victim was confronted by 34-year-old Gregory Allen Murphy as she was returning home from helping an elderly neighbor.

During the argument, Murphy allegedly "grabbed the victim by her head and shoved her face into the couch," making it hard for her to breathe. The victim told police Murphy then slammed her into a wall and door frame. She told police that's when she grabbed a knife, but Murphy overpowered her and stabbed her in the side.

The victim suffered a puncture wound to her side and multiple bruises. A CT-scan found serious damage to her lung that had been punctured by the knife.

Murphy was charged with assault and wanton endangerment. According to his arrest warrant, this isn't the first time Murphy was charged with assaulting his girlfriend. He was sentenced to 180 days for similar charges in Oct. 2013.
