San Francisco based indie rock band, Kiwi Time, was able to have their sponsor Baynetwork, Inc. generate a match donation to UpRisingofLove.org and GLAAD followed up with an interview.
Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) February 20, 2014
As the Sochi Olympics come to a close, GLAAD has taken the opportunity to remind the LGBT community that there are Eastern European born people helping to fight the fight for human rights. The specific people in this GLAAD interview are four lifelong Belarusian friends (Anna Makovchik, Yoga Shyp, Mikalai Skrobat & Vlad Kukharchuk) who make up the San Francisco based indie-pop-rock band Kiwi Time. The band has leveraged their music and the media hype around the Olympics as a platform to voice themselves about LGBT human rights.
The questions GLAAD asked were:
1. What was your experience with LGBT people in Belarus?
2. Not many musicians and artists in Belarus are LGBT supportive, so what made the band so vocal about LGBT equality?
3. Was it hard to speak out for LGBT people in a culture that opposes it so much?
4. How did you learn about the Russian Freedom Fund?
5. Tell us about the concerts you have done to support the Russian Freedom Fund.
6. How has the news from Russia and the Olympics impacted the band?
7. What do you want US allies to know about LGBT people in Russia?
8. What do you want LGBT people in Russia to know?
The bands responses can be found on the GLAAD.org website.
