LANE | Louisville Thrives on Day Two of AAC Swimming

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The U of L men and women had strong second days at the first American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.  The men moved into first place overall and the women extended their day one lead.

The Cardinals produced 16 NCAA B-cuts, two NCAA Invite times and two school records on the day.

"It was a great session.  I think we did a good job in the morning to set it up, and we certainly had the people in the finals to create some great racing opportunities," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "It was a great night, inspired swimming by a lot of people.  We're obviously looking at swims that are an NCAA qualification, we're so close in so many areas.  We're pleased with the evening, and we won our fair share of events and that's what's exciting.  It's been a fast meet, much faster than I think many people expected.  That's a credit to the people that really put a lot of effort into organizing the event, and you can see it's a first-class event all the way and the swims are fast.  We're excited for tomorrow, today's over and we've got to be ready for tomorrow morning."

Men's team standings after Day 2 at the AAC Championships are: UofL 345, SMU 277, UConn 245, Cincy 155.

Women's team standings after Day 2 are:  U of L 376, SMU 236, Rutgers 216, UConn 191, Cincinnati 152, and Houston 147.

Friday preliminaries begin at 10:00 am with the finals starting at 6:00 pm.
