LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a man used a fuel card stolen from a Louisville Metro Government nearly a dozen times before he was caught.
According to an arrest report, the suspect, 25-year-old Derrick J. Sheppard, used the stolen Fleet One fuel card nine times between Feb. 16, 2014 and Feb. 17, 2014, to purchase fuel in the following amounts: $39.46; $51.14; $69.00; $33.00; $50.00; $31.55; $67.65; $12.75; and $31.91.
Police say Sheppard was confronted after making the $31.91 purchase at a Thorntons gas station on Dixie Highway. An unnamed co-defendant told police that Sheppard told her to hide the card after he was stopped.
The fuel card was recovered at a later date.
Sheppard was arrested on Feb. 20 and charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and tampering with physical evidence.
