Father arrested after overnight shooting

Posted: Updated:

MARENGO, In. (WDRB)-- The Crawford County Sheriff's Department says an 18-year-old man was shot in the stomach early this morning.

It happened on South White Oak Circle in Marengo at around 2:20 a.m. Authorities have since taken the victim's father, 42-year-old Floyd Kennylee Schmitt into custody. He's behind bars at the Crawford County Jail.

Neighbors say they've never had problems with the father.

"He's pretty quiet actually. Goes to work and comes home. That's all I see out of him," says neighbor Rickey Smith.

Authorities say his son, Paul Schmitt, was flown to a Louisville hospital. Authorities tell WDRB he's in stable condition.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Department says Kennylee Schmitt faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery. Bond has been set at $27,500.

The shooting remains under investigation.
