LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Freshman Jake Sparger made an impressive second career start, going six and two-third scoreless innings as the Cardinals defeated Eastern Illinois 6-0 Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium to run their record to 6-2.

An Eau Claire, Wisconsin native, Sparger struck out three for his first career win.  The 6'5" righthander has a 1.15 ERA and nine strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched over three outings.  It was the fifth time in six outings that U of L held an opponent to two earned runs or less.

The offense was led by junior second baseman Grant Kay.  He went 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and one run scored. Junior outfielder Mike White was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and scored once.  Junior shortstop Sutton Whiting added a two-run triple and scored once.

Louisville is now 4-1 at home.  They're in the midst of a 17-game homestand.  They host Morehead State on Wednesday at 3 p.m., at Jim Patterson Stadium. Then Toledo visits on Friday at 3 p.m., No. 17 Indiana on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and Toledo again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
