LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Starting this weekend, southern Indiana residents should start dialing the 812 area code, even when making a local call.

Dialing seven numbers will still work until early September to give callers a chance to adjust to the new 10-digit dialing.

The change comes as the state gets ready to introduce the new 930 area code.

That area code will only be assigned to "new" phone numbers, and existing 812 phone numbers will remain the same.
