LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Southeast Bullitt Fire Department will have to pay back thousands of dollars in incentive pay and pension dating back to 2008.

On Friday afternoon, the Kentucky Fire Commission Board voted to approve the recommendation by a committee of Fire Commission board members and firefighters.

The Commission says Chief Julius Hatfield admitted in an email that he wasn't at training and left for his board meetings numerous times. Training is tied to state aid and incentive pay.

The Fire Commission is expected to send a letter to the Southeast Bullitt Fire Department requesting approximately $35,000, but the department can appeal.

The Fire Commission says the money was given to the Southeast Bullitt Fire Department originally, so they are the ones responsible for repayment.

Hatfield has denied our requests for an interview.
