LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new museum celebrating the rich history of the Louisville Water Company is now open.

The WaterWorks Museum, set inside the original pumping station on River Road, celebrates 150 years of history. Local school children helped cut the ribbon to open it.

Inside, visitors will find the original pumping station, along with photos dating back to 1860.

The historical landmark will serve as more than just a museum.

"This facility will also be open for weddings, receptions, family reunions, corporate events and whatever," said Jeff Brammell, president and CEO of Louisville Water Company. "So we're very excited about that and the facility is booking up fast."

Visitors can also see exhibits that include an original steam mud pump and lessons about Louisville Water's groundbreaking efforts, such as riverbank filtration.
