U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell carries rifle to the stage of CPAC

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell took the stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) carrying a rifle.

The Republican walked out holding the gun above his head. As it turns out, it was a gift for retiring Oklahoma senator Tom Coburn -- a lifetime achievement award from the National Rifle Association.

McConnell also used the stage to take a jab at President Obama.

"The President of the United States is treating our Constitution worse than a placemat at Denny's," McConnell said, to applause. "I've spent so much time over in the Supreme Court trying to stop these guys, I'm practically on a first name basis with the bailiff. Obamacare, the EPA, the unconstitutional recess appointments, it never stops."

Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul will address the CPAC tomorrow afternoon.
