Vladimir Putin, a former KBG agent in the old Soviet Union, has stated, and I quote: "The demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century."  I guess he is just wistful for the good old days when you could hold all your people prisoners within their country.  So he's decided to invade Ukraine with an obvious next move of pulling it back under the government of Russia.
Why does this matter to us?  To those of us at WDRB it matters very much.  We have been asked by the U.S. State Department to teach television management and journalism principles to up and coming TV stations in Ukraine and Georgia.  We've met so many wonderful, happy, and generous people since 2009.  Most of these people have grown up as free people in a free democracy since Ukraine was released from the stranglehold of Russia in 1989.  Now Russia wants them back.
Vladimir Putin is a thug. He and the Russian government seem to be on the wrong side of every possible moral decision. They support Iran. They support Bashar al-Assad in Syria as he continues to massacre hundreds of thousands of his own people.  But Putin's illegal actions in Ukraine have already caused their stock market to plummet, which is a good start.  Maybe the economic consequences will cause his demise and a more rational leader will emerge.

I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
