LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials say a prison guard's error led to the escape of a convicted murderer in February.

Officials at the Michigan prison say guards failed to reset motion-detection alarms -- and they say that played a major role in Michael Elliot's escape. The investigative report reveals two zones at a prison vehicle entrance weren't secured at the start of a shift.

The report says Elliot crawled under fences and escaped for a day before being captured in Indiana.

There is no evidence Elliot had help from other inmates or staff.
