LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has identified a man who was found dead in the Portland neighborhood late Thursday night.

That man has been identified as 44-year-old James Newton, who was pronounced dead at his home.

Officers were called to the home in the 300 block of N. 21st Street near Griffiths Avenue around 8:15 p.m. on March 6.

That's where an LMPD spokesperson says a white male in his 40s was found dead inside a home. Police believe he lived in the area.

Foul play is suspected.

"It is being treated as a homicide," said LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley.

Investigators went door-to-door in the neighborhood overnight, looking for information.

"We are of course knocking on doors and talking with the neighbors to see if they have heard or seen anything out of the ordinary," said Smiley.

An autopsy was pending. As of Friday afternoon, his cause of death had not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673). Callers can remain anonymous.
