Pedestrian killed while crossing Dixie Highway

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was killed while crossing Dixie Highway early this morning.

It happened just before 7 a.m. That's when the victim, who has not yet been identified, was crossing Dixie Highway from Matheis Lane when he was struck by a pickup truck.

Police say it was still dark when the accident happened, and the driver of the pickup truck didn't see him.

We're told no charges are expected to be filed.

"The truck driver did stop and attempted to render aid and took all the appropriate measures," said Josh Meyers with Shively Police. "There's no reason to believe at this point that the truck driver was under the influence of any intoxicants. He was just on his way to work and it's an unfortunate situation."

There's no word yet on the man's identity, but he is believed to be in his 60s.

The northbound and southbound lanes of Dixie Highway between Matheis Lane to just north of Nobel Place were shut down for several hours.
