Finalists named in JCPS Schools of Innovation competition

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- What will JCPS' newest school look like?

District board members named four finalists in the School of Innovation competition Monday night.

One idea involved creating a magnet school on Museum Row, while another suggestion included year-round school with longer school days.

A third concept used art to teach all subjects and another provides flexibility for students to set their own schedule.

The state gave JCPS special exemption from certain rules and regulations to re-think what education looks like.

It's Kentucky's answer to charter schools.

Coming up on WDRB News at 4, Gilbert Corsey will explain what the four teams must do between now and this summer and how the district will select a winner.
