TRIMBLE COUNTY, Ky.  (WDRB)-- The search for Christopher Smolik began in Trimble County.

Right now, Smolik is wanted for failing to pay nearly $20,000 in back child support.

"I'm the one that started it," said his ex-wife Christy Smolik.

"Because he can't step up and be the person he needs to be."

Christy Smolik is the mother of his 13-year-old son, but she has not seen him in several years.

"Almost 7 years ago, it was after my mother has passed and he said if my son ever needs anything - and I said, well, the only thing he needs is for you to pay your child support," she said.

But she says Smolik has not done that in a long time.

"September of 2010, it was $200, two $100 payments is what it was, I keep track of it."

She says the court-ordered amount is less than $100 a week.

"$61 a week, it ranges between $244 to $305, just depending on how many weeks are in the month."

"The warrant originated out of here for flagrant nonsupport," explained Trimble County Deputy Sheriff Dennis Sharon.

Christopher Smolik now owes more than $19,000 dollars in back child support and the Trimble County Sheriff's office has a warrant for his arrest.

"It's a felony warrant, that means any place in the United States, he can be arrested by any police officer, he can actually turn himself in to any law enforcement officer and be transported back to Trimble County," Sharon said.

The Sheriff's department says whether he turns himself in or waits for police to find him, chances are good Smolik will spend time in jail.

"The only way he would leave here would be to be in possession of $19,000 plus the bond fee, other than that he would go to jail."

Meanwhile, in addition to the child support, WDRB News has learned Christopher Smolik has a lengthy criminal history that includes theft and being a persistent felony offender.

His ex-wife hopes he has learned his lesson.

"I would like for him to actually take responsibility for his actions, everything - even the child support and being a father like he should be," said Christy Smolik.

Once he is in custody, Christopher Smolik will be taken to the Carroll County Detention Center.
