Report: Broken rail caused Dixie Highway train derailment

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A broken rail caused the train derailment that brought evacuations in southwest Jefferson County in October 2012.

That's the conclusion of the Federal Railroad Administration and the final report on the accident is now public.

The report says 13 cars of the Paducah and Louisville Railway train left the tracks because of the broken rail on an outside curve.

Two tank cars were punctured and released a chemical that forced evacuations in the area for eight days.
