Indiana governor signs bill opening up funds for military vets

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana's governor signed a bill into law allowing more of Indiana's veterans and their families access to funding for food, housing and other expenses.

The measure applies to about 26,000 Indiana veterans who served in the Armed Forces or National Guard after Sept. 11, 2001.

Starting July 1, they'll be eligible for grant payments through the state's Military Family Relief Fund. Gov. Mike Pence says eliminating the current three-year restriction on access to the fund is "the right thing to do."
