Expanded gambling proponents rally in Frankfort

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Supporters of expanded gambling are making another attempt to revive the issue.

Sponsors of casino gaming bills in both the Ky. House and Ky. Senate have said the issue appears dead for this session -- but during a rally at the Capitol today, the pro-gaming group Kentucky WINS urged supporters to contact their legislators and urge them to let voters decide.

"85 percent of the people want to vote on this issue -- 85 percent," said Ed Glasscock, spokesperson for Kentucky WINS. "Sixty-five percent are in favor. Why won't the General Assembly allow them to vote? That's back to the point: the issue has been debated long enough in Frankfort."

A two-thirds majority of lawmakers in both chambers would be needed to place an expanded gambling amendment on the ballot in November.
