LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The annual St. Patrick's Day parade sponsored by the Ancient Order of the Hibernians kicked off on Saturday afternoon.

The parade began at 3 and thousands turned out to enjoy a sunny, warm spring afternoon. Green-clad revelers piled onto hundreds of floats to wave to the crowds and throw green beads.

Bars opened their doors and windows and served up green beer to celebrate the Irish holiday, which is actually Monday.

Police estimated there were more than 70,000 people at the parade.
