Grand jury takes up case of troopers accused of relationship with 15-year-old

BRANDENBURG, Ky. (WDRB) -- On Monday morning, a special grand jury in Meade County began hearing the case against two Kentucky State Police troopers accused of a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Of the 12 jurors on the panel, only nine have to agree for an indictment.

Several sheriff's deputies were present, both outside the courtroom and outside the grand jury room, as extra security was called in for this high-profile case.

Former Brandenburg officer Todd Matti was also there. He is just one of a total of four officers accused of an inappropriate relationship with the 15-year-old girl.

At 9 a.m., the grand jurors started listening to two Jefferson County prosecutors who have been assigned to the case. A KSP investigator and a KSP sergeant assigned to special investigations is also assisting prosecutors.

Special prosecutor Thomas Wine confirmed that former KSP troopers Stratford Young and Todd Matti's, cases will be presented to the grand jury. He will not name the other two people. The grand jury will decide each officer's case separately.

Wine says if they are indicted, they'll be charged with rape and sodomy. Those arraignments are expected to happen immediately after the judge reads the grand jury's decision.

One witness tells us a Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office deputy was also involved.

Wine says all of the officers could have testified this morning, but chose not to. All of the officers have either resigned or been fired.

We tried talking to Matti but he declined to comment this morning.
