Three die, eight hurt in Evansville apartment fire; arson suspected
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A fire investigator says three people have died and eight others have been injured in an Evansville apartment building fire that's being investigated as a possible arson.
Chief Fire Marshal Dan Grimm of the Evansville Fire Department says the eight people injured in the blaze Monday include four firefighters with minor injuries and four civilians, including two airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
Grimm says there was no information immediately available on the people killed.
Grimm says the fire occurred in a two-story apartment building and that some people jumped from second-story windows to escape the blaze.
He says the fire is being investigated as a possible arson and that police have spoken to a person of interest in the investigation.
