Indianapolis fire truck falls into sinkhole

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- An Indianapolis fire truck on its way to save the day ended up needing to be saved itself after it fell into a sinkhole.

Officials say the sinkhole was about 4 feet by 8 feet wide and swallowed the truck's rear driver's side up to its frame.

Crews needed a couple hours to free the engine.

The fire department says the engine was on its way to a reported house fire when the truck's rear driver's side wheels sank into the pavement up to its frame.

Fire Capt. Rita Reith says no firefighters were hurt.

Crews had to remove the water stored in the engine in order to lift the truck out of the hole.
