BBB: Scammers cashing in on NCAA Tournament fever

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The NCAA Tournament brings with it a slew of scammers who are ready to cash in on the madness.

With U of L and UK headed to the tournament, the Better Business Bureau is warning fans about scams.

BBB officials say to use caution when buying tickets, travel deals and team memorabilia.

The agency recommends purchasing tickets directly from the NCAA website or reputable secondary outlets listed on the BBB website.

The bureau also discourages from going after travel deals that advertise low prices and charge premiums. The BBB recommends instead using secure websites, verifying the hotel's existence and using a credit card.

And despite the low prices of sports memorabilia, the BBB says most counterfeit goods are actually stolen or the seller just wants to steal your personal information.

The advice from the agency - if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
