LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After a lot of effort, a robbery suspect gets away from a Portland pizza joint with a safe. But what the robber didn't know about the pizzeria must have been quite the surprise when he got the safe home.

Early Wednesday morning, owners of Annie's Pizza on Portland Avenue say an unidentified robber broke the front door and stole a safe.

"The guy walked around the building. [He] was looking in the windows," said the owner's son-in-law Josh Charlet. "There's a lot of footage of him riding up and down the street in a bicycle and walking around and just looking around."

In the surveillance video, the suspect notices the security cameras, tries to cover his face and then continues to plot the break-in.

After scoping the scene, the suspect grabs a hunk of bricks and throws it through the glass door. In the process, he falls down.

"I don't know if he lost his balance or what, it's definitely destined for YouTube I would say," said Charlet.

Once inside, the suspect realizes the store doesn't keep any cash overnight so he starts working on the safe.

"He's kicking the safe, trying to get it out," he said. "It's bolted to the wall and I think he removed part of the wall to get it out."

And even though the owners would like the guy caught, they also know there isn't much to be replaced.

"He worked awful hard for not a great pay day," said Charlet. "When he did finally get it home, I think there were two penny rolls and maybe some aspirin so it probably wasn't the best take."

If you recognize the man in the surveillance video, you should contact police at 574-LMPD.
