Historic Clark Memorial Bridge pylons to be dismantled and moved

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The decorative pylons on the Indiana side of the Clark Memorial Bridge are being dismantled and moved Friday as part of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

It's an important but difficult job. The pylons in question are 30 feet tall and some of the stones weigh more than 20,000 lbs.

Officials with the Downtown River Bridges Project say they're trying to preserve history. The pylons date back 85 years. They're original to the bridge. They're being moved north about 100 feet to make way for new lane locations.

"That will make enough room for these new ramps to be constructed," said Max Rowland of Walsh Construction.

They're numbering each block so they can put the pylons back just the way they were.
