Clarksville Generals head to semi-state

CLARKSVILLE, In. (WDRB) --Drive around Clarksville for a minute, and you'll quickly learn what everyone is talking about. There are signs wishing the hometown high school basketball team good luck everywhere you look.

The Clarksville High School Generals have made it to Semi-State for the first time, after a spectacular year.

"We broke the school record for wins. We won our first regional ever," Coach Jason Connell told WDRB.

"The guys in our locker room knew this is something we can accomplish, and right now we're doing this, we're living the dream," Clarksville Senior, Calvin McEwen said.

The celebration surrounding that dream isn't taking the team's eyes off the prize.

"We can't get caught up in that. We've got to come prepared, and ready to go on Saturday," McEwen explained.

He and fellow senior, Andrew Jones know they'll experience something they never have before.

"It's exciting, nerve-racking, all of it," Jones said.

That's why they say they have to treat this like any other game, by practicing the same, and listening to Coach Connell's criticism closely.

"Mentally though, we've got to be ready for this," the coach told his team.

It's the only way they say they'll make it to the buzzer Saturday in Seymour with another big win under their belts against the seriously tough Park Tudor of Indianapolis.

"I hope that we'll be on the bus ride, and we'll all be celebrating having a good time," Jones said.

"It's going to be a battle. I just wouldn't bet against these guys," Connell explained.

The guys play at Lloyd Scott Gymnasium in Seymour at 3:15pm today.
