Police rally around daughter of detective suffering from leukemia
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's a simple message, hope, faith and a cure.
It was echoed at an event tonight to help the 4-year-old daughter of a Louisville Metro Police officer who is suffering from leukemia.
Sophia Lane, daughter of homicide detective Chris Lane, was diagnosed early.
She was not at the event Saturday night at the Fraternal Order of Police headquarters on Price Lane because of her compromised immune system, but dozens of people were there to participate in a silent auction, with proceeds going to help her family.
Sgt. Aaron Crowell says the experience is meaningful, "he's humbled and we all are. I mean all of us who have been involved in the process and trying to raise funds and get people involved in the process have been blown away not only from the police department but from extended family and people that we do business with every day."
Sophia is undergoing chemotherapy right now. Crowell says once the money is used for immediate needs, it will be used for medical bills.
