WDRB BRACKETOLOGY: Crawford leads, yet is doomed

Posted: Updated:

WDRB SPORTS OFFICE --- The standings are tight after the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, in the race for bragging rights in the sports office.

All 5 members of the WDRB Sports Team filled out a bracket on Selection Sunday. The scoring by round is as follows: 1-2-4-8-10-15. You can see everyone's brackets by clicking here

Heading into the Sweet 16, here's where everyone stacks up, with first round scores in parentheses:

1. Eric Crawford - 43 points (23)

2. Steve Andress - 42 points (24)

3. Tom Lane - 41 points (23)

4. John Lewis - 40 points (20)

5. Rick Bozich - 39 points (21)

Final Four update

Crawford may be in 1st place, but ultimately, may be doomed. He lost both Kansas and Wichita State in his Final Four, including Kansas in the championship game. His only saving grace may be if Arizona wins it all. He was the only person to pick Zona to cut down the nets. He's also the only other member of the sports team to put Virginia in the Final Four.

Lewis lost one Final Four team - Creighton. He has Florida beating Louisville for the title, with Iowa State also in the Final Four.

Andress, Lane, and Bozich all have their Final Fours intact. Andress has Louisville winning it all, Lane has Florida, and Rick has Michigan State.

Highlights and Lowlights from the Rounds of 64 and 32

Eric Crawford:

Highlight - Picking UConn and Baylor to reach the Sweet 16

Lowlight - Kansas in the championship game; that might explain the extra order of wings Eric had in the Chicago airport, after watching the Jayhawks lose to Stanford.

Steve Andress:

Highlight - The only person to pick both Dayton and Harvard to win in the sports office

Lowlight - Going 1-3 in the 5-seed vs. 12-seed games, and swearing at his hotel room TV, when VCU gave up a 4-point play with 3 seconds left to Stephen F. Austin. A big thanks to Mark Gottfried too for blowing a 16 point lead to St. Louis.

Tom Lane:

Highlight - Picking Memphis and Gonzaga to win; surprisingly, the only person on the sports team to do that.

Lowlight - Duke in the Elite 8 (he was not doing the Mercer dance afterwards)

John Lewis:

Highlight - Calling the Kentucky over Wichita St. upset, the only WDRB Sports guy to do that

Lowlight - Utterly negating his UK upset pick, by having 15-seed American to make the Sweet 16 (WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!!!!!!)

Rick Bozich:

Highlight - The only person in the sports office to pick Stanford over New Mexico

Lowlight - Nebraska in the Sweet 16 (that got him sent to the bottom of the standings faster than Nebraska head coach Tim Miles got sent to the showers)

See you in Indianapolis, where our brackets will be further shredded into oblivion.
