Man who killed witness in murder trial seeking probation

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man convicted of killing a witness in a Louisville murder trial is fighting to get out of jail.

A judge has granted Steven Pettway a hearing that could allow him to be released on probation.

The 21-year-old was convicted last year of killing Troya Sheckles in Shelby Park in 2009.

Sheckles was set to testify against Lloyd Hammond when she was shot and killed in broad daylight.

Pettway is now serving 55 years in state prison. Since he was a juvenile when the murder was committed, he's eligible for probation.

The hearing is scheduled for March 26.
