Indianapolis hotels banking on big bucks from U of L / UK rivalry

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indianapolis is banking on Cards and Cats fans.

The U of L and UK rivalry means big business, to the tune of $20 million -- and managers at area hotels are reaping the rewards. All four teams playing at Lucas Oil Stadium are within driving distance of Indianapolis, but officials say they are far enough that fans plan to stay overnight.

"In 2013, our downtown hotels were able to command on average a $140 average daily room rate," said Chris Gahl, the vice president of Visit Indy. "This weekend, hotels are generating and creating $250 to even $350 per room, per night."

WDRB's Rick Bozich and Eric Crawford will have their thoughts on the big game starting Thursday on WDRB in the Morning. Our entire sports team will have complete coverage of press conferences and public practices live from Indy on Thursday, as well as live reports leading up to Friday night's tipoff -- and we'll keep you covered through Saturday morning, right here on WDRB.
