National Corvette Museum bringing in vacuum to recover cars

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials at the National Corvette Museum are swapping out the heavy equipment for a household item to help them find three rare cars still at the bottom of a massive sinkhole.

"They're planning on using a special vacuum to start removing some of the dirt from the sinkhole," said Katie Frassinelli, spokesperson for the museum. "Basically, where the dirt on the sides of the walls has accumulated, they're going to start taking that out and hopefully see the two cars that have yet to be found."

Crews have been busy the past few days removing pieces of concrete left hanging over the hole.

A total of eight Corvettes fell into the sinkhole.  Five of them have been recovered.

Officials hope their success continues, but admit they are anxious about the getting to the final three.
