Kentucky heroin bill expected to get hearing Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A bill designed to combat the growing heroin epidemic is expected to get a hearing today in Frankfort.

Senate Bill Five passed the Republican-led Senate more than a month ago, but has been stuck in the Democratic House. The bill establishes more treatment centers for heroin addicts and imposes longer sentences on heroin dealers.

It would also make a drug that helps counteract heroin overdoses more available to first responders.

The measure gets a hearing today in the House Judiciary Committee, which will recommend whether it should get a vote in the full House.
