LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Local college students are trying to help an 8-month-old cancer patient.

Meet Hadley Mercer: Earlier this year, she was undergoing her second round of chemotherapy at Kosair Children's Hospital. Mercer was diagnosed with acute Myeloid Leukemia when she was six-months-old.

Hearing of her struggles, students at U of L held a bone marrow drive. For several hours on Wednesday, they swabbed cheeks and got people signed up on the registry.

"It's awesome to see our community come our and really support somebody that they don't know, just because you never know if it could be you or a family member next," said Megan Wood, a U of L senior.

Wood is a Leukemia survivor. She was diagnosed when she was 18 -- and has been in remission for six years.
