LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The start of the spring season at Keeneland is just a week away and Amy Gregory visited WDRB to talk about some of the new features that will be included this year.
Keeneland opens on Friday, April 4 and Spring Meets will go through April 25. There will be no racing on Mondays or Tuesdays, or on Easter Sunday, which is April 20. The gates open at 11:00 a.m. each day, with the first race post at 1:05 p.m. Admission is $5 and children under 12 get in free.
This year's Spring Meet theme is "I Love Keeneland," a fan-driven campaign that uses social media to display photos taken by Keeneland patrons. Fans can submit their photos to Keeneland's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts with the hashtag #ILoveKeeneland, and could see their images featured on the track's website or social media accounts.
The track has also enhanced Keeneland's mobile app, allowing access to entries, scratches, changes, real-time odds and results. It will also now include a GPS-enabled interactive map to help patrons navigate Keeneland and show friends where they are.
Special events this spring include College Scholarship Day on April 4, Sunrise Trackside on Saturdays with family activities throughout the morning, and Military Day at the Races on April 6. Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear will hold her Horses and Hope Pink Day/Ladies of the Turf women's health initiative on April 13.
